DREAM OF A LOST PARADISE
Opening on Saturday July 17, 2021
5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
"The afternoons in the patios of this house were the only thing that really stuck in her memory, [...]."
On the occasion of the exhibition “Dream of a Lost Paradise - A Quest for Light”, Colombian photographer Luis Alejandro Cuellar-Varona takes us on an introspective journey from Europe to Latin America, through a series of 19 photographs. In the personal quest for his lost paradise, forever lodged in his childhood memories. More precisely in the light of the patio of his house in Popayan. He uses photography as his weapon to chase away the beauty, which he perceives in the little things of everyday life.
This hanging, like a back door, offers the viewer a path to the artist's personal reflection, and reveals the intimate and subconscious of his artistic works. LA Cuellar makes his first real exposure available through this exhibition, since he does not only deliver his pictures. His texts as well as sounds, reinforce the image in order to embrace the completeness of this erratic journey in search of his “soul”.
This invitation to enter his paradise creates a direct link between the eye and the object, the image and the heart. His universe becomes ours and we gradually slide into this journey between two worlds. From the washing-up liquid in the kitchen of a Parisian apartment, to the Andean plains of Latin America, these places resonate with a familiar aura.
